This all happens so quickly that we are as unsettled as Sam in his new situation, we see this new existence through Sam’s eyes we learn to adapt as he does to all the bewildering things that come from being a ghost. The strange dream sequence which I have always found perplexing is a manifestation of that confusion, integrating a collage of images and fantasy until Sam realises he has died. His death scene is very underrated, he portrays a convincing confusion and panic at being ripped so suddenly and violently from his body as can only be imagined. Director Jerry Zucker has said that Patrick did not require dialogue in a scene to portray the message, he could say it all with his eyes. However, I think people forget that this is not just a great love story but a tense and rather frightening drama, Swayze’s performance as Sam is one of the greatest he delivered. Saying that, his more sinister pieces are menacing summing up entirely the danger and threatening situations on screen and may I say for a 9-year-old is truly frightening. It is an unforgettable element of the picture and undeniably one of the main reasons you require a box of tissues close by. Created by Maurice Jarre, it is one of the most beautiful and sentimental pieces of film music, full of longing and passion. The score, notably the love theme, is introduced very early on in the movie and establishes a great tone for the relationship of Sam and Molly and its great depth. The song played here has also reached great heights of infamy in relation to the film Unchained Melody performed by the Righteous Brothers was actually released 25 years before in 1965 but was re-introduced to a legion of new fans through its use in Ghost’s most recognized scene. The famous pottery sequence has taken on a life of its own in skits and re-imaginings. There are a number of reasons Ghost is considered a soppy romance, mainly due to one scene. Through sheer love and perseverance, Sam is able to reaffirm his love for Molly and settle his unfinished business. When he discovers he was murdered in a premeditated attack and Molly is in danger he enlists the help of Oda Mae Brown (Goldberg) a fraud psychic who is distressed to learn she can hear him, to communicate to Molly for him. But unbeknownst to the grieving Molly, Sam is still hanging around, he has not crossed over to the other side due to a desire to know why he was killed. Sam Wheat (Swayze) and Molly Jensen (Moore) are a happy couple moving in together and planning a future until Sam is killed in a mugging gone wrong. OK so it’s not hard to guess what’s coming, I mean it’s in the title, but the how’s and why’s are what make this movie and make it so much more than just a chick flick. There are definite hints of something in the dialogue, which only adds to the build-up. Ghost is considered a chick flick one for the girls with a glass of wine and a box of tissues – true it is that but there is so much more to it.įrom the ominous blast of music introducing the title, you know this is not going to be sunshine and rainbows, the opening scenes establish the characters and there is already a sense of foreboding as we watch this happy young couple starting their life together in a great New York apartment. I have fond memories of watching it repeatedly, though I was drastically too young to see the film, but now I can look back and laugh at the years of nightmares its antagonists gave me. For as long as I can remember Ghost has been a special film.

This light lacks side visibility lights, but we think that’s a fair compromise for the best value in our lineup. On the road, the Lumina 1000 generously illuminated both the sidewalk and edge of the road and helped our tester stay visible enough when cars were overtaking him. The widespread, even beam produced via collimator optics (a collimator basically makes pointy light sources into a parallel beam). (Added bonus: A NiteRider lifetime warranty covers any defects in material and workmanship, mechanical components and LEDs.)Īnother reason the light passed our value test? At $100 for 1,000 lumens, the cash-to-lumen ratio on the Lumina 1000 is excellent. He credits the headlight’s robust waterproof seal, sturdy mounting system and the fiberglass reinforced nylon casing for dutifully lighting the way through downpours, road grit, thunderstorms, fog and wet, sloppy conditions. In six weeks, our tester in Swampscott, Massachusetts, logged an impressive 1,300 miles and 100 hours with the NiteRider Lumina 1000, which stood up to the task. Test Results: If you want to test a light’s reliability, and hence its value, give it to a longtime cyclist who rides nearly every day of the week. Nice touch: A lockout mode prevents the light from accidentally turning on in your bag or when not in use. If you have handlebars that are wider than the standard 31.8 mm diameter, this light won’t fit out of the box. But note that the rubber mounting strap is short. (You have to rotate the light on your bars to see if it’s time to power down and conserve battery.) The bike light flashes to alert you of imminent shutoff when you’re critically low on juice.Ī quick-release mount lets you keep the rubber mounting strap on your handlebars while charging, which makes things easier. Some, however, wished that the battery-indicator light was more visible while riding. Road-riding testers appreciated the red side lights that provide lateral visibility to drivers. The cone-shaped interior reflector beams light where you need it, whether the headlight is mounted on the handlebars or the (included) helmet mount. Or, power the headlight with an external portable power bank (not included). With 1,000 lumens, this compact light lasts 1 1/2 hours on high and up to 6 on low, which should give you more than enough time to beat the dark home. The Vis Pro 1000 earned that ultimate badge of respect from our testers after weathering several drenching summer rainstorms to test its waterproof claim, many nights on sketchy pavement to test its rubber mount and a 6-foot drop onto concrete. The headlight is lightweight, bright enough to illuminate both trail or road and works intuitively-which is why it stayed mounted on our testers’ bikes around the clock, even on daytime rides. The Calculator app allows results to be refined by specifying how many decimal places are needed, and the thousands separator can be enabled to help recognize larger numbers more easily. Anyone that can twist their brain into this way of thinking loves it. For example, '22 7 ÷' performs the division with the result '3.142857.' It feels odd to enter calculations in this way, and it takes some getting used to, but the benefit becomes apparent when chaining together calculations without the need for parentheses. This method allows the entry of two numbers before the operator. Also found in the view menu will bring back fond memories for anyone that grew up with an HP calculator. As a topical application (applied to the skin) a mustard plaster is not only effective, but it’s also quick, safe, inexpensive, and simple to make.īelow are instructions on how to make a mustard plaster. The benefit of using a mustard plaster for lung related conditions is that it helps break up and clear congestion, draws out toxins, relieves cough, and stimulates the immune system to fight infection. It works as a ‘counter-irritant’, which basically acts by creating somewhat of an irritation to the skin above the area being treated (such as the lungs) and attracts blood and increased circulation to the area. Although not considered a ‘modern medicine’, the mustard plaster works extremely well for conditions such as pneumonia, lung infections, coughs, bronchitis, colds and flu’s. Mustard seed, as a traditional plant, has been used for thousands of years as a treatment for respiratory illness as well as rheumatism (arthritis and joint pain disorders). Hippocrates, the father of medicine, was the first to introduce and make use of what we call the mustard plaster. Likewise, it's still simple to flash the boards with your code in a single command line. The thing I like with ST is that their STM32Cube development tools are pretty straight forward and multiplatform (I use Linux). You can also physically remove, or simply disable, the ST-Link also, which is good if you're wanting to use the board in a project and don't need the ST-Link and its accompanying power consumption. The Nucleo boards have an onboard ST-Link programmer / debugger, which is nice to have when getting started. However, if you're a hobbyist this doesn't matter too much, and within a given series the variations won't matter much unless you've very specific needs. Starting on STM32 boards, the big thing is overcoming information overload from the almost endless versions of microcontrollers that ST offer. I've got a few STM32 boards on my desk at the moment, including a Nucleo-L073RZ and STM32F0Discovery both very affordable when purchased from one of the big suppliers like Mouser or Digikey etc. I mean ~$3 for a robust M4 development and prototyping system is a pretty good buy. This is all true with the Discovery and Nucleo boards too, but they aren't $1-3 each. Like MicroPython instead, you can get it running in a few minutes and be good to go. Yes, CubeMX is easy, the others are just other ways that people like to work, and they are all available using the Blue or Black Pill boards. I personally tend to just rock across the buttons to get into DFU mode and program them, and find it easier than the ST-LINK, either stand alone or on the Discovery boards. On the new STM32F411 boards, the DFU is built into ROM, and they come with buttons instead of jumpers. So if you prefer that method, it is easy and cheap to just grab a USB ST-LINK device. What I am saying is if you get an st-link, a blue pill will behave as the discovery, as all ST did was add a STM32F103 on a part of the board and programmed it to be an ST-LINK. |
